Bowen Therapy is a manual, therapeutic method developed by Australian Tom Bowen. Based on the theory that “structure governs function and function governs structure” – the aim of Bowen is to restore the structural integrity of the body so that the body may heal and perform optimally. Therefore, through a series of gentle moves over muscles and tendons, the nervous system is stimulated so allowing it to self-regulate itself and cease being in a constant state of fight-or-flight.
A Bowen session consists of a series of specific “moves” practiced on specific areas of the body, with pauses in between so that the body can fully respond to and integrate the moves. The client may wear light clothing for the session.
Clients report a feeling of deep relaxation, of feeling like they have just woken from an 8-hour sleep to feeling like they have not just finished playing a full rugby tournament. Muscles are relaxed and released, pain is relieved, and states of anxiety are lessened. It is truly a remarkable, magical therapy and one which I have had enormous success with from young children to the very elderly!
Bowen Therapy, because of its non-invasive nature and gentleness is ideal for people living with cancer. It promotes an amazing feeling of well-being and relaxation and eases the discomforts so common with chemotherapy and radiation. For more information go to http://www.bowensa.com/practitioners.html
Testimonials for Bowen Therapy:
“Bowen therapy is an integral part of my treatment while undergoing radiation for my cancer. Without it, I would not have managed the pain and fatigue,” B Brien.
“After years of suffering from back pain and associated back pain, I have finally found relief through Bowen therapy. Fiona Hardie has given me the chance to do the things that I have not been able to do, like holding my children without feeling excruciating pain. I’m exercising again which is such a big part of who I am. I literally felt lost and have finally been able to found myself again with Fiona’s treatment and caring attitude. I look forward to continuing my journey with Fiona,” Jacqui Carreira-White.
